How to stop overthinking and start doing
So many of us want to create something. We have a to do list. We want to write a book, call that friend we haven’t talked to for a while, sit down and meditate, go after that great opportunity. I have been wanting to write a book ever since I was 17 and I must started to write about a hundred times. But the minute I started to over think what I was writing, I got stuck. I didn’t want to sit down and write anymore because I just felt frustrated. My writing wasn’t good enough, what would people think. Did I have the right tone, didn’t I make it to complicated, didn’t I make it to simple? All of those questions came from an insecure place where I was not connected to my highest self.
We all have things that we want to do, but we procrastinate anyway. Usually we think about doing it a LOT, but we don’t seem to get into any action. So here are my tools for overcoming the over thinking and how to START.
1. Check yourself and get real.
Why are you overthinking this? I used to think that I thought a lot about things before I started doing them, because I was so smart. My ego said: ‘you are just so smart, you think about this a lot better than other people and that why you will do better eventually.’ This was my ego’s way of comparing and really just keeping me stuck in fear. Because under that rational, it was really about being afraid I wouldn’t do good and be judged for it. Check if this is true for you as well. Is there really just fear under the over thinking? and do you wish to live from fear? Getting honest with yourself is a first step to changing anything.
2. Move that body.
Take a walk, do some yoga, dance around. Do whatever exercise you like to do. This will get you out of your head and back into your body. Also, when you walk you make dopamine in your brain with is a great mood enhancer and it helps you get into action. Let you body get into action first and it will help your mind to follow.
3. It does not have to be perfect, it just has to BE.
Remind yourself: it does not have to be perfect, it has to BE. With means that before anything can get really great, you have to let it into existence. You have to manifest it, make it real. If you want to have a great romantic relationship, you will have to meet some people! My amazing business coach Marie Forleo says: ‘Start before you’re ready.’ That is just the best advice because it get’s me into action with the option to make adjustments and take feedback on the way. You don’t need to think about everything that might happen before. The funny thing is, is never goes the way you plan. The universe has a mind of it’s own.
4. Make a mental picture of it being done and FEEL how it feel when it’s done.
This is the simplest and best tip. Just image the house being cleaned, the book being written, the pilates class being done. Take a look at that mental picture and then FEEL what it feels like when you did it and it went great. Really feel it in your body. Don’t just tell yourself, allow yourself to feel that feeling of achievement, pride, relaxation or space now. This feeling should motivate you to take one little step immediately.
The world needs you to do what you feel in your heart. It will serve us all.
So, there you have it. My top tools to stop the over thinking and start the action. I hope they serve you and inspire you to take action NOW.
Love, Susanne
